NBA City Edition 2026-27: The Tenth-Anniversary Throwbacks, Ranked

Quick Answer

2026-27 is the tenth season of the NBA City Edition program, and no team designed anything new. All 30 clubs are bringing back a jersey from their own archive, adding an iridescent aluminium-finish Swoosh and moving the NBA logo to the back neck. Retail is expected in January 2027 — later than the usual November drop.

What Actually Changed This Season

Three things separate 2026-27 from a normal City Edition year:

  • Every design is a rerun. This is an anniversary collection, so each team reached into its own archive instead of commissioning something new.
  • The details are new. An iridescent aluminium-finish Swoosh, and the NBA logo moves to the back of the neck.
  • The drop is late. Reporting points to a January 2027 retail launch rather than the usual November window — which means the hype cycle lands mid-season.

The Five Worth Buying

1. Indiana Pacers — Moments Mixtape

A white shirt with a royal blue diagonal band carrying PACERS in gold, the chest lettering lifted from 1984-90 and the block pattern from 1990-97. Indiana wore it 21 times last season. It remixes two of the franchise's best eras into one shirt that still looks new, and blue on gold on white has never looked better. This is the one that most clearly deserved a second run.

2. Detroit Pistons — Mixtape

The 2021-22 set returns: red shirt, DETROIT in blue, and trim that mixes the Pistons' red-white-blue with the teal of the Grant Hill era. Red is the right base, the teal is a smart nod to the 1990s, and the lettering reads from the upper deck. Easily their best alternate in years.

3. Denver Nuggets — Rainbow Skyline

Denver brings back the white version of the skyline set rather than the black one it wore more recently. Correct call: the white reads cleaner and the mountain gradient actually shows up under arena light.

4. Charlotte Hornets — Buzz City

The 2017-18 fan favourite returns after a single season: black base, purple and teal cascading down each side, Buzz City above the number. Fans have been asking for this one since the day it disappeared.

5. Washington Wizards — City in Bloom

The cherry blossom uniform is back under a new name. Soft pink on a light base, and one of the only genuinely pretty shirts in the league.

The Ones to Skip

Two grades sit at the bottom of the collection: Dallas, whose white-and-gold “Legacy Is Everything” set is a plain shirt with a slogan, and Atlanta's MLK uniform — a meaningful tribute executed as a black shirt with a wordmark and nothing else.

A Note on the Earned Editions

Boston, Cleveland and Minnesota did not pick a past City Edition at all. All three are bringing back their 2018-19 Earned Edition uniforms — the alternates Nike gave to playoff teams that season. Boston's is kelly green with gold lettering, Cleveland's is white fading into light blue with a navy script, and Minnesota's is white with a pink-and-purple Wolves script.

How to Buy a City Edition Without Overpaying

  • Know the difference between fan and authentic. A fan version replica gives you the design, the colours and the number for everyday wear at a fraction of the price. The authentic is closer to what players wear and is cut slim — see Fan Version vs Player Version.
  • Anniversary years get picked over fast. With a January drop and 30 retro designs at once, the popular ones will not last.
  • Care matters more on light shirts. White and cream jerseys show every wash mark — read the Jersey Care Guide before the first cycle.
